שְׁפֵי, שְׁפָאch. sam( Pi. שִׁפָּה, שִׁי׳ to plane, saw, trim), 1) to crush, rub, grind. Targ. Ps. 56:2 (h. text שאף). Ib. 3.Part. pass. שָׁפֵי; f. שַׁפְיָא; pl. שַׁפְיָין, שַׁפְיָן. Ib. 51:19 (h. text נדכה). Targ. Job 33:21. 2) to plane, smooth, paste over. Yeb.75b שַׁפְיֵיהוכ׳ he trimmed it (cut off the protuberances) like a writing reed. Sabb.98b, v. טָרִיז (v. שְׁפֵי II). B.
